Where did time go?

The Watch

A short -novel by Ken Gandy

11:30am - A crash is heard.

Screams hide amongst the sirens. Yellow tape is going around the poles as the police enter the scene. Paramedics are arriving in the distance to save the trapped person. People gather to see the accident. There is blood on the streets.

11:35am - An old man lay on the ground half conscience, trapped under a car.

A young man sneaks past the blockage, and makes his way up to the man from across the street. He stood over him and smiled looking down into the eyes of the old man.  As the man's vision cleared and both eyes met, he noticed they resembled his own.

11:40am -The teenager stands above him looking in curiosity.

He coughed blood onto the street where he now lay and thought to himself, I have to hurry. The man hand opens, and reveals a watch. Gasping for air, he asked the kid what time it was.

11:45am spoke the boy.

The man smiled, thought to himself he made it, hoping it's not to late. He cuffed the watch in the child's hand. He said time is the one thing you cant get back. But you can visit with your mind, anytime you want. Referring to the watch now placed in the boy's hand he said, this will change your life.

11:50am -Police rushed in just as the man suddenly vanishes into thin air.

He was trying to tell the boy the rest of the message, hoping that he would make it before it was to late and the cycle would end for him, but his timing was off.

11:55am -The child grasp the watch in his hand .

His smile is wiped from himself fearing if caught, others would try to take it from him and use it for other purposes. For there were watchers amongst the crowd. He began running into the direction of the alley toward a man seated in a old cardboard box.

As he took off in the direction, it came to past that he recalled the last thing he heard in the wind that lingered off the lips of the now vanished man, and it spoke volumes to him.

It said... Quality of life, not Quantity in things you get in life that is  the most important thing.

That's what the stranger told him before he was killed trapped under a car, 23 years ago, or it seemed.

12:00 pm -The now infant child, crawled to the old man sitting in the cardboard box.

The homeless man watched everything as if he was watching a movie. He swore it a dream yet he felt a part of it all. He looked at the child as if to study him as their eyes met, and noticed they resembled his own. The child smiled and held out the watch to him. The old man took the watch, and burst into tears for he had just seen a vision of events to come in his life.

As the child vanished into thin air, The old man noticed he was 23 years old again. He is suppose to die by a car accident in the exact spot where the body laid a minute ago.  He was given a revelation of things to come and a sum of his life, a clue to how it would all end, if he don't change his ways in less than 30 minutes to come.

His pants were torn to shreds. Clawed by trying to rip free from his past.

His shirt was stained with blood. Caused by the sins he did in the world.

His shoe's were gone. His feet now bleed from running for his life.

His hair smelled like ruins of life. Taken from things he valued the most over God.

His face was hidden from all. Out of site, out of mind from home problems.

He wished he had another chance to start over again.

He got up, and took another route home, and thanked God for the reminder of how he could have been dead, but now he had a chance to live a different life.

Looking forward....

This watch represents the time it takes from a child to be born into this world, to the time he dies. Messages are passed down into the hands of children, with hopes that they will listen and make a change before it's too late.

If we take the chance to alter our course of life sometimes, we might make a difference even to our own future.

Choose carefully.

For we all will one day look up, and ask “WHERE DID THE TIME GO”.

If we could go back in time and tell the kid we were, what we will become in the future, just one message and it be delivered to the old version now, what would it be?

My message is this... Quality of life, not Quantity in things you get in life that is  the most important thing.
